The Symptom Urgent Review Clinic (SURC) is a free service for any patient who is experiencing side effects from undergoing systemic (chemotherapy or immunotherapy) treatment at Northern Health. SURC supports cancer patients and medical patients.
The Symptom Urgent Review Clinic is in the portable outside Entrance 5 Northern Hospital Epping. Patients can call or walk in without appointment. SURC is a free service for patients who are experiencing side effects from chemotherapy (cancer treatment) or immunotherapy (cancer or medical) treatment. SURC recognises and manages symptoms earlier and reduces presentations to ED and hospital admissions. SURC provides patient education and support. SURC is a nurse practitioner model of care. Our operating hours accommodate the needs of our patients and carers. We also work with VVED and ED to provide support for patients and carers after hours.
What to expect from the service?
When you are a cancer (oncology) patient or a medical (gastroenterology, rheumatology, neurology or other specialty) patient and you are suffering from the side effects of your treatment you can get help from the Symptom Urgent Review Clinic (SURC). This is a free service for Northern Health patients. Patients can call or walk in anytime without an appointment. You will be looked after by trained specialist nurse practitioners who will help answer your questions, give you information and work with you to make you feel better. Because of this help you may not need to go to the emergency department or be admitted. Our opening hours are below but if you need treatment when we are closed you can call the Victorian Virtual Emergency Department (VVED) or walk into the Northern Hospital Epping Emergency Department (ED) to get help as we work with VVED and ED.
