Clinical Genetics


Northern Health’s Comprehensive Cancer Care services work together with our community to provide cancer care. In partnership with Austin Health Genetics we provide patient centered, culturally appropriate and supportive care for patients, their carers and families with appointments available at Northern Hospital Epping.

The Clinical Genetics Service helps people make informed decisions about their health and wellbeing through genetic diagnosis, counselling and support.

People seek genetic counselling when they have concerns about their health or the health of their children with conditions which may be inherited. Our Clinical Genetics service is a team of clinical geneticists, genetic counsellors, medical oncologists and support staff, working together with your Northern Health specialists.

Our team provides genetic counselling which helps people make informed decisions about their health and wellbeing through genetic diagnosis, counselling and support. Appointments are government funded and there are no out-of-pocket costs for attending an appointment.


What to expect from the service?

Your Northern Health specialist will discuss with you whether you need to be supported by the Clinical Genetics Service and will refer you to this service if this will assist making informed decisions about your health and wellbeing.


Your patient’s Northern Health specialist will discuss with your patient whether they need to be referred to the Clinical Genetics Service Austin Health. The Northern Health specialists will refer your patient to this service if this assists making informed decisions about their health and wellbeing. You may also refer patients directly to the Ausitn Health Clinical Genetics Service.
