Our graduate programs are designed to support nurses and midwives as they transition from student to registered practitioner. These structured, clinically-focused programs provide opportunities to consolidate knowledge, apply theory in practice, and build both professional and clinical skills.

With a strong emphasis on engagement and empowerment, our programs help graduates grow with confidence as they begin their careers in healthcare.


Overview

The Northern Health Enrolled Nurse Graduate Program will facilitate your transition to practice by providing you with opportunities to consolidate your skills and knowledge, integrate theory to practice and further develop your professional and clinical skills through a structured, clinically-focused program.

Aims

The program is a 12-month supported employment model in which successful applicants will be employed on a part time basis (0.8EFT) within the Northern Hospital, Broadmeadows Hospital or Bundoora Centre.

Overview

We facilitate your transition to practice by providing you with opportunities to consolidate your undergraduate skills and knowledge, integrate theory to practice and further develop your professional and clinical skills through a structured, clinically-focused program.

Upon job offer, Graduates submit rotation preferences & will be granted at least one of these areas in their first and/or second rotation.

Bedside support ensures our graduates consolidate basic skills & build confidence.

We know from experience, support & opportunity are paramount to success as a graduate. Clinical Educators, Clinical Support Nurses, preceptors and experienced clinical staff provide practical assistance and support in the clinical environment.

  • Graduate specific orientation program addressing clinical and administrative aspects of nursing and midwifery

  • Preceptors who are experts in their field to guide, mentor and support throughout each rotation

  • Paid Graduate-Specific Professional Development Days held in our Northern Centre for Health, Education and Research, with access to our high fidelity simulation centre

Northern Health is the home of Victoria’s largest public women’s mental health inpatient unit.

We endeavor to ensure that Graduates get as many of their placement preferences as possible over the course of their initial two years. These are carefully allocated to provide each graduate with the best possible opportunity to consolidate their skills.

What to include in your application

  • Cover Letter – Must include how you identify with Northern Health’s Values
  • Resume (max 3 pages)
  • Outlining relevant education and clinical experience
  • Must include a table of clinical placements (both completed and pending) – see below sample
  • Two clinical appraisals
  • At least 1 must be from an acute setting
  • Up to 15 pages wherever possible, uploaded as a single doc per appraisal (in PDF)
  • Must include shift log, formative and summative assessment
  • No Mental Health appraisals for general or mid applications, unless no other option
  • At least 1 must be from a Mental Health or an acute setting if one has not had a mental health placement as yet
  • Must include formative and summative assessment
  • Academic transcript (including grading key)
  • Names and contact details of 2 clinical referees

Documents do not need to be certified, however you must be able to produce the original document if
requested to do so.

Interviews will be viewed via the PMCV Video Interview system.

Please limit to 15 pages for each appraisal, where possible.

1 – Your most recent ACUTE appraisal
2 – Your next most recent appraisal (which may be acute, sub-acute, specialty or community) of 2 weeks placement duration or longer. Must NOT be Mental Health (unless you apply for the MH Stream or have no other option)

You will be requested by PMCV to complete a video interview via the Allocations and Placement Service (APS) website. You may also be invited to attend an interview for the GNP – Kilmore & GNP – Mental Health streams.

On 17th September we will contact all successful candidates.
