Northern Health Specialist Clinics follow state-wide policies to prioritise referrals, this ensures patients with the highest clinical need are seen first.
To access a Specialist Clinics, you will need a referral to be sent to Northern Health from your General Practitioner (GP) or other health care professional.
- We will send you and your GP a letter to let you know that we have got your referral.
- A clinician will look at your referral to check that all the information needed is included and to decide when you need an appointment based on your clinical need.
- You and your GP will be told the result of this assessment.
- If your referral is accepted, you and your GP will get:
- an appointment via SMS, email or letter, or
- an SMS, email or letter saying you have been put on the planned appointment list for a future date.
- We aim to see urgent referrals within 30 days.
- If more information is needed, we will contact your GP to request it.
- You will be told of the final outcome by SMS, email, or letter.
