Cancer Surveillance Services

Northern Health’s Comprehensive Cancer Care Services support Northern Health cancer patients until they are discharged to the care of their general practitioner. While cancer patients are in our care, we look after all their surveillance needs.

On discharge to the care of their general practitioner, the GP takes on the recommended screening program.

What to expect from the service?

Community/Symptomatic Patients: If you have symptoms you are worried about we recommend you see your general practitioner for advice.

Community/Asymptomatic Patients: Patients who are asymptomatic have access to community screening programs which are accessed through their GP or through community sites:

Community screening programs can be accessed by the patient directly or following discussion with their general practitioner.

Northern Health Cancer Services accept referrals of screen diagnosed cancers or highly suspicious lesions detected incidentally. Links to NH cancer streams are found on the Northern Health website.

Northern Imaging Victoria (NIV) accepts CT requests from general practitioners for patients eligible for the National Lung Cancer Screening Program (NLCSP).
