At Northern Health, we provide trusted, accessible, patient-centered care spanning a person’s entire life, caring for their physical and mental wellbeing. We provide a wide range of primary and mental health services across our sites in the northern region of Melbourne.

Our community is one of the fastest growing in Australia encompassing the local government areas of Whittlesea, Hume, Darebin, Banyule, Nillumbik, Merri-bek and Mitchell Shire.

Within Northern Health’s catchment are three of Victoria’s highest growth areas, Hume, Whittlesea and Mitchell. The swift development of new suburbs in the north will see our population grow by over 50 per cent by 2036.

Northern Health sits proudly at the heart of a community represented by over 185 different birth countries, speaking more than 107 different languages, and observing over 90 different religions or beliefs. The strength in this diversity underpins our desire to ensure every member of our community has access to appropriate and considered care, close to home.

Northern Hospital Epping operates the busiest Emergency Department in Victoria, with an average of 110,000 presentations per year, reflecting the rapidly growing community it serves. This growth is driving innovation and enabling discussions about the needs of the population and what the health system of the future might need to look like to meet those needs.

Northern Health is also home to Victoria’s Virtual Emergency Department (VVED), a state-wide system designed to triage and treat patients with non-life-threatening conditions from the comfort of their own home.

Our workplace is vibrant, fast-paced and inclusive, with more than 8500 staff and over 200 dedicated volunteers who are guided by the organisation’s values – Safe. Kind. Together.
