What to expect from the service?

When you come to Northern Health’s Hand Therapy service, expect to receive personalised care tailored to your recovery goals. You will undergo a thorough assessment to understand the extent of your condition and the development of a treatment plan that may include:

  • One-on-one therapy sessions with a hand therapist or allied health assistant
  • Home exercises to support your recovery
  • Education on your injury, recovery timeframes, return to work and sport advice and managing daily activities
  • Collaborative care with the medical and nursing teams
  • Progress monitoring to ensure optimal outcomes

Patients attend Hand Therapy until they have recovered sufficiently and can independently manage their condition with advice from their therapist. Often, patients will be provided with an exercise program to continue their rehabilitation at home.
